Billing and cost breakdown

Every line item that can appear on a charging session's bill, what each one is calculated from, and how a receipt is produced.

This page is a sub-page of Payments and billing, which covers payment methods, the pre-authorization hold, and the Wallet.

Where the breakdown lives

Every session in Charging history (in the profile) opens into a detail screen with its full cost breakdown. This is the authoritative record of what a session was billed for; figures shown while a session is still running are working numbers, the breakdown is the settled result.

Line items

Which line items appear depends on the Location's pricing; a simple session may show only energy and tax, while a booked session that overstays can show most of the list.

  • Energy fee: the cost of the electricity delivered, calculated as kWh consumed multiplied by the per-kWh rate. This is the core of almost every bill, and the rate is disclosed on the location screen before charging starts, so the per-kWh price on the breakdown should never come as a surprise.

  • Time fee: a per-minute cost for the duration of the session, used at some locations instead of, or on top of, the energy fee. Because it runs on the clock rather than the meter, a vehicle that charges slowly pays more time fee for the same energy than a fast-charging one, which is exactly the incentive it exists to create: not occupying the charger longer than necessary.

  • Idle fee: an Idle fee accrues at set intervals when the vehicle stays plugged in after charging has finished, because a full car blocking a connector prevents anyone else from charging. A push notification arrives as soon as the grace period starts, stating how many minutes remain to move the car and avoid the fee entirely; a second notification confirms once the fee has actually been charged, and repeats at each later charge if the car is still there. Moving the car within the grace period means the fee is fully refunded. The fee works identically whether the session was a Walk-in session or booked in advance, and it stops accruing the moment the vehicle is unplugged. Like all pricing, it is disclosed on the location screen and in the pre-charge confirmation.

  • Booking fee: charged when the charger was reserved in advance at a location that supports booking. When a booking fee is refunded, the app confirms it with "The booking fee has been refunded to your payment method."

  • Session fee: a flat amount some locations add once per session, independent of how long the session ran or how much energy it delivered. It covers starting a session at all, which is why it appears unchanged on a two-minute top-up and a full overnight charge alike.

  • Tax/VAT: either already included in the per-kWh rate or added on top as its own line, depending on the deployment. The section below explains how to tell which applies.

  • Processing fee: the payment gateway's own transaction cost, passed on to the driver in some deployments. Most deployments absorb this cost instead, so most breakdowns never show the line at all; its absence is normal, not an omission.

Availability: the processing fee is optional per deployment.

Tax included or added on top

The per-kWh rate in the app is presented in one of two ways:

  • Tax inclusive: the displayed rate is the final consumer price, and no separate tax line changes the total.
  • Tax exclusive: tax is calculated on top of the displayed rate and appears as its own line in the breakdown.

A label next to the rate indicates which applies. When no label is shown, the cost breakdown itself settles the question: a separate tax line means the rate was exclusive, no tax line means it was already included.

Getting a receipt

  • Download invoice appears on a session's detail screen once that session has an issued invoice (paid, or partially refunded), and produces it on demand at any later time. A session with no issued invoice, most commonly an estimate-only home charging session, has nothing to download in the app.
  • Invoices are also emailed automatically after each individually billed session, and include the full breakdown with tax, which makes them usable directly for expense claims and VAT accounting.

If an expected invoice email never arrives, the in-app support chat can check whether it was actually sent and delivered to the account's address, which distinguishes a delivery problem from a wrong email address on the account.

Estimated versus settled totals

Some sessions are not invoiced individually, most commonly home charging that runs on the owner's own electricity meter (see Home charging). For those, the app shows an Estimated cost calculated from the session's own data, useful for reference but not a real charge, since no invoice exists behind it. A settled amount always comes from an actual invoice, and once one exists it replaces the estimate.

Important
A total labelled as an estimate means no money moved for that amount through the app. Treating estimates as pending charges, or waiting for them to be "collected", is the most common misreading of home charging costs.

Common questions

How is a disputed idle fee handled? The fee is disclosed twice before it can ever apply, on the location screen and in the pre-charge confirmation, and a push notification with the exact grace period countdown arrives before any charge is made, so the session record shows the driver was warned in advance. Refund requests go to the site's own support contact, reachable from the location in the app, since the site operator owns the pricing decision.

Why do two sessions with the same kWh cost different amounts at the same location? Duration-based items make the difference: a time fee scales with how long the session ran, and an idle fee applies only if the car overstayed after finishing. The line items on each breakdown show exactly which of these applied.

Can the breakdown be used for VAT accounting? Yes. The emailed and downloadable invoices state tax explicitly, even when the on-screen per-kWh rate was presented tax inclusive.
