Sustainability and live prices

The app can show a forecast of upcoming electricity prices for home charging and an estimate of what charging electric has saved compared to driving on petrol. Both features are covered here.

Live prices

Availability: optional per deployment; can be used depending on the business case of the individual operator.

Live prices shows a forecast of upcoming electricity cost for home charging. Electricity market prices move through the day, so the same charge can cost noticeably more or less depending on when it runs; the forecast lays those hours out in advance, letting a driver plug in during a cheap window instead of an expensive one.

The same forecast is what powers Intelligent charging, the home charging mode that plans sessions automatically. Instead of charging the moment the cable is plugged in, Intelligent charging estimates how long the car needs (from its battery size, current charge level, and charging power) and places that charging time in the lowest-cost block before the driver's chosen ready-by time. The prices shown are a forecast, not a guarantee. The final settled cost of a session can differ slightly from what the forecast showed at the time.

Environmental impact

Environmental impact shows what charging an EV has saved compared to covering the same driving in a petrol car, as three figures: emissions avoided, fuel saved, and money saved.

The figures are estimates built from standard conversion factors, not measurements of a specific vehicle or specific trips. Emissions avoided are calculated with the standard factor of 2.31 kg of CO2 per litre of petrol burned; fuel and cost savings use standard combustion and EV efficiency baselines together with local average petrol prices. Because the inputs are averages, drivers with similar charging histories see comparable figures even if their actual cars would have consumed differently.

Common questions

Does Live prices affect what a session costs? No. It is informational: it shows when electricity is expected to be cheap so that a driver, or Intelligent charging acting on the same forecast, can time the session well. It does not change any tariff or bill anything itself.

Why do the savings figures differ between countries? The cost-saved figure is calculated against local average petrol prices, so the same amount of charged energy translates into different savings depending on where the driver charges.

Can the environmental figures be used for formal emissions reporting? They are estimates from standard factors, intended to show impact over time rather than to measure a specific vehicle, so they are not suited to audited or regulatory reporting.
