Hybrid chargers

A smart home charger that can also operate as a public charger: the owner keeps free home charging and can switch on Public sharing to let other EV drivers pay to charge, earning money from their sessions.

A hybrid charger combines both worlds: all home charging features for its owner, plus the option to make the charger available to other EV drivers and earn money from their charging sessions.

📌

The hybrid charger feature is enabled per organisation. If you don't see the Hybrid chargers tab or the Hybrid option when adding a charger, contact EOSVOLT support to have it switched on.

How charging and payment work

Who can charge, and who pays, depends on the Public sharing toggle:

  • The owner always charges free, in home mode, even while public sharing is on.
  • Shared family members charge free while public sharing is off. When public sharing is on, they pay like public drivers.
  • Everyone else can charge only while public sharing is on, paying like at a commercial charger, at the location's price.

When public sharing is off, the charger behaves exactly like a home charger and is invisible to the public.

Visibility in the app

The hybrid charger's location appears on the public map and in the app's lists only while public sharing is on. Switch it off and the location disappears from public view again.

Adding a hybrid charger

  1. Go to Charge Points → Hybrid chargers and click Add new hybrid charger (or pick the Hybrid tile in the add-charger form).
  2. Select the location (only public locations can be selected) and set the location's price, which is what public drivers will pay.
  3. Public sharing is on by default for new hybrid chargers; switch it off if the owner wants to start in home-only mode.
  4. Under Owner settings, invite the owner via email or with an offline redemption code. The invited user becomes the charger's verified owner when they redeem the code, and from then on charges free in home mode.

Owners can also onboard their own hybrid charger directly from the mobile app: pick the charger's brand and model, register its serial number, and create the location with address, price per kWh, and opening hours. An unfinished registration can be resumed, and expires after 60 minutes.

Common questions

Does the owner pay when the public uses their charger? No. The owner always charges free in home mode. Public drivers pay the location's price, like at any commercial charger.

Can the owner turn public access on and off? Yes, with the Public sharing toggle. Off means a normal home charger, invisible to the public; on means other drivers can find it and pay to charge.

What do other drivers pay? The price configured on the hybrid charger's location, exactly like a commercial charger.

Why can't I create hybrid chargers? The feature is enabled per organisation, and the option only appears once it is switched on for yours. Contact EOSVOLT support.

Can I convert an existing home charger to hybrid? No, a charger's type is fixed at creation. Add a new charger with the Hybrid type instead.
